About Wordsmyth

Since moving to Johannesburg in 2003, freelance writer Kristia van Heerden has gone from wide-eyed student to carefree journalist to business writer and all the way back. A qualified language practitioner, Kristia worked for national publications such as Beeld Newspaper, where she kicked off her writing career with translation work and lifestyle writing and ZOO magazine, where she worked as copyeditor and writer.

She spent a couple of months making her bones at community newspaper Randburg Sun before becoming a copywriter for Medios Marketing Communications. She spent three years writing press releases and business articles for industries ranging from solar water heating to software development.

Today, Kristia writes for a number of national publications in both Afrikaans and English. She also translates from Afrikaans into English and vice versa for publications and public relations companies. She does corporate writing and search engine optimisation for a variety of companies.
